Oral history interview with Dean Rusk and William Bundy, 1985 Feb.

In this interview, Dean Rusk describes Indochina's history and the early U.S.involvement in the region, first in Laos and then in Vietnam. He discusses treaty commitments in the Pacific as well as efforts to maintain peace in the area. In particular, he talks of the ruling parties in Laos and Vietnam and U.S. and French efforts to reach peace.

Bundy served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1946. During World War II he commanded a Signal Corps unit that worked with the British on the ULTRA operation to break the German codes. For ten years Bundy worked for the Central Intelligence Agency before joining the Kennedy administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, International Security Affairs, from 1961 to 1963 and Assistant Secretary of Defense, International Security Affairs, from November 1963 to 1964.
